Robin Vazquez

Robin Vazquez currently serves as the Employee Resources Director at a large state agency, where she supervises all agency human resource functions as well as facilities, safety and wellness, and mail and imaging. Before that she worked at the OFM State Human Resources division where she supported statewide efforts to increase the performance, engagement, diversity and inclusiveness of the state workforce. Previously she worked in labor relations for more than 10 years, and has negotiated collective bargaining agreements on behalf of the state of Washington.

She received a Master’s in Public Administration with a Policy concentration from TESC in 2019. She serves on the Lacey City Council and the Thurston County Board of Health, and is the current chair of the Thurston Regional Planning Council. In her spare time she enjoys writing, playing Dungeons and Dragons, singing karaoke and playing roller derby. She believes in the incredible power of public service and dedicated public servants to improve the lives of everyone in our communities.

Why DEI matters for public agencies and public contractors: In this presentation Robin will review some of the current efforts that state and local governments are undertaking to increase workforce diversity and close service and outcome gaps for underserved communities. She’ll provide information about the current policy landscape that exists in Washington state related to public sector DEI efforts. Finally, she will share some practical tools for how to do your day-to-day work in a way that gives residents and communities in Washington an equal chance.
